Bola classic disc brake carbon bike wheel review

Bola classic disc brake carbon bike wheel review

 Easy installation: ⭐⭐⭐ ★☆
When installing TLR 28mm tires, the Bola carbon bike wheelset is somewhat difficult to install, but not the most challenging. Tire sitting is relatively easy, but there is an air leakage problem. The carbon bike wheel pressure often reaches 70psi, and even if multiple wheel protection plastic rings and sealants are added, it is difficult to completely seal. The situation improved after adding sealant, but it is still unstable.

 Acceleration performance: ⭐⭐⭐ ★☆
When riding, this carbon wheelset has excellent acceleration performance, performing well from low speed to high speed. The advantage of low-speed acceleration is obvious. When sprinting at 45-50 kilometers per hour, it is usually not a strong point for the bottom frame wheelset, but it still has good performance, thanks to the stiffness and low rotational weight of the carbon bicycle wheels.

 Handling performance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ★
High stiffness doubles confidence when turning, and the Bola classic carbon bike wheels are stable and controllable. The spoke weaving method and quantity avoid the negative impact of reducing the number of spokes due to the pursuit of aerodynamic advantages on turning and torsional stiffness.

 Pneumatic performance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ★
When facing headwinds at low yaw angles, the speed is comparable to that of a high frame carbon wheelset. But in crosswinds, the bottom frame carbon bike wheelset has a smaller "sailing effect" and feels slower than the high frame bicycle wheelset. However, the bottom frame bike wheelset is more fun and flexible to ride, and the Bola wheelset is no exception. High stiffness and low weight make it suitable for climbing and fast handling.

 Spoke configuration: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ★
Wheels equipped with  spokes are used for the front wheels, non drive side rear wheels also use these spokes, and the rear wheel drive side uses aero spokes. Both the front and rear wheels are equipped with 24 spokes arranged in a 2:1 cross pattern to maintain wheel roundness and optimize stiffness, ensuring torsional stiffness during braking, acceleration, or turning. After measurement, the weight of the carbon bike wheel was 1348 grams, slightly higher than the claimed 1299 grams, due to the installation of disc lock rings and tubeless tape during weighing.

 Wheel hub bearings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ★
The Bola classic wheels are made of carbon fiber material with hooked rims and can be used for tubeless tires. The internal width is 21 millimeters and the external width is 28 millimeters, Bola claims that its bearing tolerance is within a few thousandths of a millimeter, which is better than competitors when matched with flower drum, improving durability and reducing friction.

 Recommendation score: 4.85 points
Overall, the Bola DB classic carbon bike wheelset is interesting, combining low weight with excellent stiffness, good handling, stability, and speed performance, but difficult to maintain high air pressure on certain tires and expensive. Consumers need to weigh the pros and cons based on their needs and budget.
